EnglishThe session 2022-23 was a new beginning at the campus where life was found again after two years with the students coming together to bond, learn and play again and fill the environment around with laughter. The students made efforts to know more and learn about each other with the Ice Breaker Activity by sharing two statements about themselves under the theme Myself. This helped in building up self-confidence and appreciating public speaking. Learning began with a Scavenger Hunt in the class to recapitulate Nouns and classify them further into Common and Proper Nouns. They further did activities where they gave Proper Names to the common names asked. The progress went on with the understanding of the Value of Grandparents and Model Reading in general and it was supported by a reading of the lesson ‘A Home for Grandfather’. The students and teacher discussed the storyline and Story Map along with comprehending the lesson and raising vocabulary in the learning. To check their prior knowledge, they were asked to identify three-digit numbers in and around their homes. They came up with interesting observations. Similarly, they were asked to identify and note down 4-digit numbers in their notebooks. The students understood the Place Value concept through virtual Dienes blocks. They happily made four-digit numbers using number cards and represented their numbers using various forms – Expanded, Word, Standard and Model forms. They understood the difference between Face Value and Place Value. Moreover, the students of Grade III formed 4 - digit numbers using a number card. A story was narrated to them in which they categorised living and non-living things. Students were further motivated to observe their surroundings and draw any 5 living and non-living things . They brainstormed and enlisted the features on which living and non-living things were characterized. Learning was enhanced with the video showing the features of living and non-living things. They were able to understand the comparison based on respiration, growth, movement and reproduction. The process of germination was explained to the student to understand the concept of growth. To conclude the topic, some Hots were discussed in class. Educator began the chapter with a video explaining cells, tissues and organs as she makes them learn about the basic unit of life. They further had an activity session in which they made skeletons using matchsticks and earbuds. explained the importance of bones and muscles in the body. Further, they were introduced to the respiratory system and the organs involved. They recapitulated their understanding of the digestive system and also a video was shown as to how food travels in our body. With never-ending enthusiasm, they introduced themselves thereby incorporating the theme of the month which is ‘Myself and My World’. They further recapitulated their learning on the topic ‘Family’, the role and importance of family and relationships. The concept of family-led our children to wonder ‘ How did this concept originate?’ Thus, started our research on how humans evolved. They learnt about the life of Early Humans by using a variety of strategies and teaching methodologies. It was incredible to see their surprise and excitement as they compared modern and early human life. As said by Maria Montessori, ‘The hands are the instruments of man’s intelligence.’ To improve our children’s creative and cognitive skills, students along with the teacher learnt to build a raft and understood the ancient forms of transport on the way! Our little Suncitizens further explored the theme ‘My World’. As an introduction, the class observed the map of India which revealed their next topic - ‘Our Country’. Using the map maker tool students located their country’s location on the world map. Further learning about India, students developed a sense of patriotism and a desire to serve their country as they learnt about the national symbols of India. To conclude the topic, the children revised their learnings through a game of Match and Pair. Deep diving into the learning about Indian States and Union Territories, students were explained the need to divide the country into states and Union Territories and the role of Central and State governments in the functioning of a country. To offer structured learning students were introduced to the states in the North region and the same was marked in the map book. Students cma up with mesmericing characters. Students were asked to write a thought on a tree shape- " HOW WILL I PLEDGE TO PROTECT MY EARTH". They wrote the pledge and coloured the parer tree. They pasted the cutouts on a big Earth and showcased their love towards nature and Mother Earth. Students learnt poster making skills and drew and coloured poster on LABOUR DAY, saying NO TO CHILD LABOUR as it's slogan. ART INTEGRATION- Students of Grade 4 made beautiful landforms inducing imagination skills. It was an integration with Social Sciences.
