MathematicsOur students continued the learning of Number System concept in the month of May. They happily recapitulated the concept of Odd and Even Numbers by playing a game. The concept of pairing too was understood by them. Interestingly, they differentiated between 4 digits odd and even numbers. They were introduced to Number Patterns where they explored how addition, subtraction and multiplication can be used to create interesting 4-digit number patterns. They further learnt about the 4-digit number formation using four digits. To check their prior knowledge, they were asked to form three-digit numbers using three digits. They came up with interesting observations and further understood how the smallest and largest four-digit numbers can be formed if one out of the four digits is 0. The students were then introduced to Rounding Off Numbers concept in an interesting manner. They were explained how and where they can use this concept in their real life. Moreover, they took the help of the number line to round off the 2-digit numbers to the nearest tens. The students the happily practiced questions based on the above-mentioned topics in their notebooks. They recapitulated the previous concepts through oral questions and Quizizz. They were able to relate with the features of different organ systems. They understood the basis of the organization of body. They also learnt about the formation of the organ system through cells. They observed the framework of their body while discussing the skeletal system. They made comparison between the bones of an infant and an adult. During the discussion about the muscular system, they also understood how bones are connected with each other. Social StudiesIn the month of May, our students further explored the theme “Myself, My World”. As an introduction, the class solved online jigsaw puzzle which revealed their next topic - ‘Our Country’. Using the map maker tool students located their country’s location in the world map and the water bodies around it. Further learning about India, students developed a sense of patriotism and a desire to serve their country as they learnt about the national symbols of India and their heritage. They learnt about the National Symbols and their significance to the country. To conclude the topic, the children revised their learnings through a game of Match and Pair. Deep diving into the learning about India’s States and Union Territories, students were explained the need to divide the country into states and Union Territories and the role of Central and State government in the functioning of a country. To offer structured learning students were introduced to the states in the North region and the same were marked in the map book. Young learners were introduced to the legend making and marking of states on a political map of India. Information & communication technology (ict)As we all know that learning is an ongoing process and not a destination. Keeping this in mind we continued with learning more advanced features of Tux Paint such as magic tools and to judge the understanding of the students we asked them to demonstrate their favorite memory with their families. The topic was picked from their English chapter to help them integrate the subjects. They also created greeting cards expressing their love and feeling for their mothers in Tux Paint. They progressed further and created the 'Hindi calendar' for the month of May in the application using different styles, effects and stamps of Tux Paint. This integration of ICT with Hindi helped them share their learning of Ganit Mala (गणित माला) in a highly innovative manner in ICT. Some of them also used brush tool, color palette, text tool etc. to make it interesting. The chapter was concluded with the revision of their learning and Brain Storming exercises. englishLiterature: Students completed Unit-9, The Maze Game, from their reader Nelson Pupil Book 3. As a way of concept initiation, learners were acquainted with different types of mazes. While reading of the unit, pupils analyzed the sentences and how this text was different from others. They keenly observed and investigated an instructional text, how instructions are written for a game and what are the dos and don'ts. Their vocabulary and spellings were enhanced through various comprehension exercises and the concept of adding '-tion' suffixes to words. Lastly, students revised the concept of instructions and how we use instructions in our daily life when we explain to someone ‘how to’ do something. Writing: As a reflection activity, and a recapitulation of previous learning, students jotted down their own instructions on "How to behave in a virtual class?"
