mathemaTIcs 

​​The students continued to strengthen their understanding of the concept of Division by practicing and attempting Division sums with 1-digit divisor and 3-digit to 4-digit dividend numbers. They practiced the concept learnt by attempting sums and related word problems (using RUCSAC method) in their notebooks. Getting the students to verify their answers,  helped them understand where they went wrong if at all
 
Students enjoy their SHIN-Edu program activities in the classes which help to enhance their logical and critical thinking skills in class.

SCIENCE 

Light, Sound and Force

Students were introduced to the natural phenomenon of light where they learnt the difference between luminous and non-luminous objects. An experiment was conducted in class which helped them to understand ‘how shadows are formed. They were fascinated to see the change in the length of the shadow on moving the object around the source of light and the distance from the source .
. As part of the next topic, they understood the difference between pleasant and unpleasant sounds by participating in an open singing contest. Connecting to real life scenario, our young learners discussed the concept of Friction and understood the importance of friction in even performing simple tasks as picking up a book and walking.

SOCIAL SCIENCE 

Taking the topic of Food further, the students learnt about the usefulness of reducing food wastage. To connect the students with the SDG- Zero Hunger -a poster-making activity was conducted in which our little artists showcased their talent and visual-spatial skills. The SDG- Responsible Consumption and Production was discussed with the help of the story ‘Rosetta’. This was culminated by our responsible Suncitizens taking a pledge not to waste food that is served to them.
Further our 3rd graders went on to learn about ‘Means of travel and communication’ by differentiating between the various means and modes of transport. Further, they learnt about the importance of communication and types of communication. They learnt about the journey of a letter and the invention of written script.
They deep-dived into the history and evolution of transport and communication. Connecting to real-life, students learnt to read the airline and railway tickets and understood the various parameters in the tickets. They were re-acquainted with the road safety rules. To strengthen their learning about road safety, students made flash-cards of Traffic signals integrating their learning and creativity with Art. Recapitulation of the concepts learnt was done in a collaborative way using Wakelet tool.
Live online worksheets, real-life connection, See-Think-Wonder strategy, Padlet wall, videos, ppt’s and interactive sharing sessions were the methodologies used in guiding the learning throughout.

INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY 

“Learning never exhausts the mind.”
In continuation to last month, the students learnt and demonstrated several new ways to arrange and sort the Desktop Icons, changing the Desktop background and applying screensaver. Their learning helped them to distinguish the purpose of different Mouse Pointer shapes. They also practiced selecting and deselecting the Icons available on the Desktop.
By the end of the chapter, the student felt very closely connected with the purpose and use of an Operating System such as Windows which is highly attractive with a complete set of new features, themes, and icons.

ENGLISH

The pleasant month of October beckoned the beginning of Term-2. Garnering lessons from the past term, students moved forward in full swing to be more “wiser”. The month began with Unit-22, ‘Wise Expressions’ from the GK Book. Students were acquainted with Proverbs in the English language. Few commonly used proverbs were also shared to improve their spoken communication. 
Literature:
  • Interpretation of information from a flow diagram was taken up in Unit-11, ‘Staying Healthy’. The students gained knowledge related to the spread of germs and how facts can be represented systemically through a flow diagram. As an extension of the unit, students also practiced Antonyms and Contractions from Nelson Workbook. Integrating Art with English, students made attractive flow diagrams to maintain hygiene in their daily routine.
  • The difference between fiction and non-fiction was revised with the help of a PPT. Students were asked to give their interpretation of the two terms with examples. Unit-2, ‘Would you like to live here?’ from Nelson English Pupil book was also done in October. The first part of this unit introduced various types of houses around the world, while the second part offered an excerpt from a story, hence, illustrating the difference between fact and fiction. Word meanings, frame sentences and questions/ answers were done in an English notebook.
Grammar:
  • Conjunctions were already introduced during the discussion of unit-11 from Nelson's English Pupil book. The topic was further taken up from Nelson Grammar unit-25 in continuation with the exercises from Nelson Workbook. Consolidated written work was also done in the notebook for four subordinating conjunctions—when, while, before and after. For extra practice, live worksheets were shared with the students.
Vocabulary:
  • Units-4, 5 and 10 from Nelson Spelling Book were discussed and done in the class to enhance pronunciation of words with specific spelling patterns. Following videos were also shared for revision of rules:

छात्रों को मासिक विषय- ‘घर और समाज’ के साथ एकीकृत करते हुए पाठ्यपुस्तक के पाठ-‘उड़न खटोला’ के पठन द्वारा अपनी पुरानी चीजों (खिलौने, कपड़ेऔर किताबें आदि) को जरूरतमंदों को देने के लिए प्रेरित किया गया | पाठ-‘हरकाम ठीक समय को पढ़ाकर उन्हें समय की उपयोगिता का महत्व बताकर समयपर काम पूरा करने के लिए प्रेरित किया गया । उन्हें लोक कथाओं के विषय मेंबताते हुए पाठ ‘टिपटिपा’ का पठन, शब्दार्थ, प्रश्न–उत्तर करवाए गए । छात्रों नेव्याकरण में ‘सतत विकास के लक्ष्य-११ साधारणीय शहर और समुदाय’ के साथएकीकरण करते हुए व्याकरण की विधा कहानी लेखन को समझा | छात्रों नेअपनी बुद्धिमता का प्रयोग करते हुए कहानी का विस्तार व अंत रोचक ढंग सेकिया । छात्रों को विराम चिन्हों का परिचय दिया गया। उन्होनें विराम के प्रकारोंका भी ज्ञान प्राप्त किया । छात्रों ने ‘आज़ादी का अमृत महोत्सव’ में ‘स्वतन्त्रतासंग्राम’ से संबन्धित कोई कहानी दादी या नानी से सुनी और उससे मिलने वालीशिक्षा को अपने शब्दों में लिखा | छात्रों ने गांधी जयंती और दशहरा के बारे मेंअपने विचार कक्षा में सांझा किए | इससे छात्रों के व्याकरणिक ज्ञान और भाषिकयोग्यता में वृद्धि हुई | दिवाली की गतिविधि में बच्चों ने दिवाली से संबंधितसुंदर चित्र बनाकर ‘पटाखे को कहें न’ विषय पर एक स्लोगन लिखकर प्रदूषणको रोकने के लिए सभी को प्रेरित कियाछात्रों को ‘हिंदी ओलंपियाड’ में अच्छे अंक प्राप्त हो सके, उसके लिए अतिरिक्तकक्षाएँ आयोजित की गई । छात्रों ने उत्साह के साथ कक्षाओं में भाग लिया ।

PHYSICAL EDUCATION 

In the month of October, the students:
 
  • Continued learning chess with the help of online puzzles.
  • Practised Tabata workouts and yoga was also continued this month.
  • Played Bring me something which was mixed with different animal walks and other movements.
  • Performed coordination activities with a ball.
  • Played chess against different classmates as much as possible.
Played Basketball and Kho-Kho (only on-campus students).

DRAMA 

Form(s) of Acting: Mime
 
Application of their learning:
October month was full of festivals, so students learnt a lot about Indian mythology.
  • All the sections practised a Mime act. Students learnt Mime as a form of acting related to topics such as being trapped in a box, a flower, a balloon and a stone. In a mime, an actor tells a story through his facial expressions, gestures and body language.
  • Students were made aware that mime is a silent act or an act without dialogues. It has a proper costume and makeup, and it enhances an actor’s facial expressions, gestures and body language.

Mahatma Gandhi rightly said, “Keep your thoughts positive, because your thoughts become your words. Keep your words positive, because your words become your behaviour. Keep your behaviour positive, because your behaviours become your habits. Keep your habits positive, because your habits become your values. Keep your values positive, because your values become your destiny.” Considering the theme of the month “I AM PEACE”, students were made aware of the importance of being in peace, speaking good and positive words. Some relaxation techniques to keep the mind calm and peaceful were also shared.
