“Freedom in Mind, Faith in words, Pride in our Hearts, Memories in our Soul” To commemorate our commitment to the constitution and to celebrate the rights of democracy we celebrated the 73rd Republic Day with patriotic zeal and fervor on the 26th January’ 2022. The program began with the invocation to the Almighty to bless our dear nation on the propitious occasion of Republic Day. Honorable Principal ma’am, Ms. Guneet Ohri, unfurled the tricolor in all its solemnity and grandeur with the tune of National anthem in the background. The special assembly began with the News reading followed by the thought for the day. The little cherubs from Grade 1D, demonstrated the presentation by dressing up like the great personalities of India, with a lot of passion and excitement. Their adorable song reverberated the surroundings. The students took pride in glorifying and celebrating the spirit of nationalism through the incredibly informative as well as interesting skit was performed to enlighten the gathering about the significance of Republic Day. Next was a scintillating dance performance which kindled the patriotic spirit in every Indian heart. Reminiscing the spirit of Nationalistic feeling the children of Grade1E presented their assembly on 28th January on the Martyr’s Day. The children paid tribute to the brave soldiers and the freedom fighters of India. It was highly appreciated by one and all. Principal Ma’am was invited to address the gathering, wherein her appreciative words created a motivational wave through the children. It was a great exhibition of the essence of the nationalistic feeling which filled our hearts with vigour and pride for our country. mathematicsStudents were warmly welcomed post the Winter Break. They had a recapitulation of the concepts of Lengths and Weights, followed by an introduction to ‘Capacity’ with the help of interesting activities in class. They compared capacities of two containers to understand the concept better and observed items around themselves in the house, further discussing their capacities in Litres and millilitres, in the class. Furthermore, they learnt to add and subtract using lengths, weights and capacities in real-life situations. The students revised the Fractions concept and attempted an MS Form assessment. Young learners were introduced to the topic of Time, which they started by discussing the relevance of Time, Units of Time and their relationship. They practiced to read time as part of their classwork and homework assignments. Towards the end of the month, students began to learn about ‘Quarter To’ and ‘Quarter Past’ and practiced several related questions too. They explored the journey of silkworm from being in a cocoon to a secret economic enhancer for China in the early years by the sale of Silk Fabric. They touched the area of life skills by recapitulating the importance of keeping one’s house and surroundings clean. Learners analysed the formation of seasons, day and night, with respect to Earth’s revolution around the Sun and rotation on its own axis. They also learnt about natural and artificial satellites. The students culminated their learning journey by designing their own constellations. To self-assess their learning, the students were given auto-graded live worksheets. Later in the month, the students learnt about their home planet ‘Earth’ as a unique and blue planet. They recapitulated the facts already learnt about the planet Earth with the help of an informative video. Using visual-spatial intelligence, they marked the continents and the oceans on the world map. In order to make the marking on the map more interesting and livelier, the satellite view of the world map was shown to the students. The Republic Day was celebrated under the broader ambit of ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mohotsav’ where in GK Quiz was conducted in which our Suncitizens attempted an MCQ quiz on Quizziz and a PPT quiz with audio and visual clues. They learnt the purpose and use of numbered and bulleted list, Superscript and subscript effects, etc. Using their knowledge of the features of MS Word, they applied their understanding by typing a document using these features of MS Word learnt [Newspaper format]. The students, in their ICT class learnt about the process of programming and explored about Scratch. They were made aware about components of Scratch window. They have started creating simple scripts by using Move, Turn and Pen blocks. Literature: The warmth of relationship and friendship was touched upon in Unit-5 ‘New Neighbours’ where students learnt to interpret information in a fictional text when they dived in to the world of the Mouse family, Rose and Alex. This time students wrote their own answers to the questions which aided their answer writing skills. Writing: As a continuation from the literature unit, a demonstration of descriptive writing was given in the class. Students were taught how to use the five sense organs to write a descriptive paragraph, and how the stretch-a-sentence technique can be used effectively to describe a particular setting. Grammar: Articles ‘a’ and ‘an’ were taken up in the class. With the help of pictures, role play, video and discussion on examples from daily life, students understood the importance of being truthful, the consequences of lying, and how truthfulness makes deeper connections with people and how to practice truthfulness. Students enjoyed learning about being truthful and realised that we need to practice being true always. They also promised themselves that from now onwards they will practice truthfulness regularly and give a thought whenever saying any lie.“Truth earns trust and respect” is the learning of the month.
