ENGLISHThe Suncitizens sparked energetically post-winter break and commenced with their classes with great zeal. They completed with comprehension of the lesson ‘New Neighbours’. The element of fun began when the children went from grade 3 to Nursery children perceiving the knowledge of repeating letter words in the form of tongue twisters. They learnt the fun alliteration musically and enjoyed twisting their tongues understanding the concept of alliteration through tongue twisters (a part of the alliteration concept). They even built their own alliteration and presented well in class. Furthermore, their learning progressed with apprehension towards writing expression in the form of letter writing with the ‘A Birthday Party’ lesson in Nelson Pupil. They expressed the imagination of celebration with their loved one in an informal letter. The students grasped the concept of prefixes in English. They were asked question to check their previous knowledge about the solar system, positioning of the planets and their names. They were made aware about many beautiful facts like mercury is the smallest planet, jupiter is the largest planet, Saturn is the lightest planet etc. Students also learnt about the natural and the man-made satellite and their uses. After this they learnt about the phases of moon and their formation with the help of an enjoyable Oreo activity. After a lot of discussion and questions we proceed further to the stars and astronomy. After Exploring the Solar System kids finally came to Earth and leant about the shape of the Earth and its movements. Our little explorers learnt about the formation of day and night through globe and torch activity and also about the formation of seasons through a class activity where one kid became sun and one acted like Earth. Environmental issues were also highlighted and discussed in the classroom that how can we save our environment as a part of integration with Social Studies. Attitude of gratitude was cultivated towards our natural resources. Young learners were introduced to the concept of Fractions and to the terms Numerator and Denominator, also making notes of the same. They developed an understanding of Reading Fractions and practiced the same. Students also learnt to draw and shade Fractions as Parts of a Whole. They got acquainted with Like and Unlike Fractions and learned to differentiate the two. With the help of their Fraction Kits, the students understood quarters, halves, one-eighths,one-sixths and used their creativity to create various real-life objects and were also introduced to Unit Fractions. They were introduced to Proper and Improper Fractions. Students made notes on Proper and Improper Fractions for a better learning and practiced sorting out the two types of fractions. Students were introduced to Mixed Numbers and learned to read and relate them to Improper Fractions. They practiced to write Improper Fractions and Mixed Numbers for the shaded portions, as part of practice during the lesson. Introduction to Measurements commenced by interesting inputs from students about Standard and Non-Standard units of Measurement. The novel minds discussed the cons of Non-Standard units and watched certain related videos. They were excited to learn block coding. We discussed the interface of Scratch and started the coding by simply moving a sprite on the stage, and drawing different shapes with different pen colours, saving the project and opening the saved project. The students had fun making the sprite move all over the stage. In the month of January, Suncitizens learnt Bhangra folk dance steps on 'Vibe' song on the occasion of Lohri festival. western dance"When you dance, your purpose is not to get to a certain place on the floor; it's to enjoy each step along the way." The month of January began with a new dance style -Bhangra- on 'Vibe' song imbibing the spirit of happiness. We used freestyle body movements along with rhythmic foot movements (tapping and shuffling) to create a new choreography. They were also taught the basic levels of movements like plie and shoulder. It is a good exercise for mind and body coordination, it also improves the body posture. DramaAfter the prolonged winter vacation and with beautiful memories of a festive season, children started with new enthusiasm. The year started with a fresh introduction. A creative introduction, students introduced themselves carrying out one emotion. They were shown the structures related to medieval Indian Architecture and were encouraged to use pen shading technique in their drawings.
