EnglishIn October, Grade 3 English class had an engaging month. We began with punctuation and delved into literature, explored concepts of ideal house, and learned new words. Week 2 saw us completing Unit 2 notebook work and discussing paragraph structure. We also enjoyed reading of "Treasure Island". In Week 3, dictation and paragraph writing were the focus, along with a detailed introduction to conjunctions. We wrapped up the month with spelling lessons and revisited capital letters, making the most of the Dussehra break and Melange celebrations. It was a well-rounded month of language and literature exploration for our young learners. ScienceLearners of grade 3 started this month's learning journey by exploring facts about air, water and weather. They learnt about the water cycle, the concepts of evaporation, condensation, precipitation and collection. Also learnt about how rain, snow and sleet etc happens. They also explored about the different weather conditions and how does it change and what are the causes of change in weather conditions. Discussion and explanation was also done on topic seasons. Students learnt the concept of measurement through various activities like measuring the book with ruler, measuring the room with their feet and legs to learn the concept of stride and foot span and they also measured the wall with their hand to learn the concept of handspan. Children revised the concept of measurement through Quiz. Written and oral revisions were also done in the class of all the chapters for the preparation of Unit tests. Social scienceThis month started with learning related to How students come to school every day with an emphasis on their prior knowledge of the means of transport. wherein our little environmentalists learnt about the various means and modes of transport. Further, the students learnt about evolution of transport. After that the learners were made aware about the use of animals in the transportation system and public transport where our learners also learnt a life skill of reading a railway ticket by enhancing their spatial skills. With transportation system comes a deep sense of being a responsible citizen wherein learners talked about the safety rules they must follow when they’re using any type of transportation with awareness about the traffic signals and road safety signs. Time to get inspired- The number one skill in life is not giving up…! Keeping this in mind they learnt about the “Wright brothers” who invented aeroplane and made world a different and better place to live in and gave so many people chance not to restrict their dreams to their own land but rest of the world too. They enhanced their visual spatial skill further by marking some important airport and seaports on the political map of India. The new topic’s initiation was done by some interesting activities done without speaking but trying to communicate to their peers through their gesture, actions and drawings just like the early humans, thereby asking thought provoking questions to build the importance of communication and its evolution. Learners talked about various types of communication and what role it has on our day to day lives also how it has changed the world around us. Learners further got inspired by knowing about the various inventers of telephone, radio and television. The role of internet in our lives and then about satellite and its role in our lives. The concept of remainder was understood by them with the help of pencil colours and other real-life objects. The children continued their learning further by understanding the rules of division. Dividing a 2 and 3-digit dividend with 1 digit divisor using long division method was a new concept for them in Grade III in which the children sailed seamlessly. Learners related division concept with real life surroundings and solved division word problems using RUCSAC method. Learners were involved in art integrated activity wherein they were encouraged to display their creativity while learning division by making "A Division Flower ". They were given 3-digit dividend along with few selected divisors and were motivated to solve it independently by using long division method and fill the petals with its answer. Students recapitulated 2D Shapes and differentiated the same with 3D Shapes. They were introduced to various 3D shapes present in and around their classrooms, at home and various other places. Using the various 3D Shapes available, they learnt the properties of 3D Shapes, including the Faces, Vertices and Edges. They also learnt about line segment, ray and intersection of lines. Participants eagerly registered for their chosen events, setting the stage for a day of artistic and literary exploration. The inauguration was a grand affair, commencing with the lighting of the traditional lamp and the Shanti Shloka by the school choir. The esteemed guest of honor, acclaimed author and poet, Dr. Ved Mitra Shukla, emphasized the significance of gatherings like Mélange and provided counsel to the students. He encouraged them to actively seek knowledge and urged them to break out of their passive roles. Following this, our principal, Ms. Guneet Ohri, addressed the audience extending a warm welcome to all, expressing gratitude for their presence. Ms. Ohri highlighted the unique strengths and talents possessed by each individual, underscoring the pivotal role of language as a platform for expressing emotions in a diverse array of events. Additionally, she expressed her gratitude towards our distinguished panel of judges, comprising Ms. Hina Madaan, Ms. Deepshika Srivastava, Ms. Priyanka Balhara, Mr. Ashmeet Singh, Ms. Geeta Devi, and Ms. Harpreet Bhatia. A highly anticipated moment was the unveiling of the Mélange teaser, offering attendees a tantalizing glimpse into the creative journey that awaited. With the teaser presentation, Ms. Guneet Ohri officially declared Mélange 3.0 open, ushering in a day of artistic expressions, literary endeavors, and cultural celebrations, all set to leave a lasting impact on the school and its community, celebrating the beauty of linguistic diversity and the richness of human expression. Day 2 of Mélange began with welcoming the Chief Guest, Ms. Manna Bahadur, author and erstwhile Doordarshan presenter who had also made her mark in the All India Radio. Five more exhilarating events were hosted, making the fest more invigorating. The highlight of the day was a panel discussion featuring renowned figures from the literary world. The panel discussion featured luminaries such as Kevin Missal, a celebrated author; Ms. Chander Suta Dogra, an accomplished author and journalist; Ms. Reena Puri, a notable contributor to Amar Chitra Katha. To steer this thought-provoking discussion, we had the privilege of having Ms. Krithika Nair, an esteemed editor and publisher, as the moderator. The final day of Mélange 3.0 was graced by the presence of two members of the school management, Ms. Nandini Singh and Ms. Varsha Jhorar. Following the enlightening panel discussion, the event concluded with an award ceremony, where the deserving victors were honored. The prestigious rolling trophy was clinched by the talented and enthusiastic team from DPS Sector 45, marking a fitting conclusion to an event that had celebrated the beauty of literature, art, and intellectual discourse.
