ENGLISHApril was an exciting and productive month for our dynamic third-grade English learners! They embarked on thrilling literary adventures as they dived into the captivating story "A home for Grandfather," exploring new words to enhance their vocabulary. Comprehension exercises and notebook work deepened their understanding of the text, while discussions on sentence construction improved their sentence-framing abilities. Grammar took center stage in Week 3, where our budding language enthusiasts explored the enchanting world of nouns. From common to proper, they mastered the art of categorizing nouns through the "All About Me" activity, making their learning personal and engaging. As their journey continued into Week 4, the students unlocked the secret realm of abstract nouns, skillfully differentiating them from their concrete counterparts. Their notebooks transformed into vibrant canvases as they adorned them with collective nouns and embarked on an epic emoji adventure of abstract noun to solidify their understanding. May was a month filled with exciting adventures for our third-grade English learners. In Week 1, they explored "sp" and "spr" words in their English Spelling book and practiced noun exercises in grammar. Moving to Week 2, they delved into the world of articles through the book- Nelson Grammar, sharpening their understanding in notebooks and workbooks. Children were introduced to the hamburger paragraph writing technique. They learned to craft well-organized paragraphs with an introduction, supporting details, and a conclusion. Engaging in lively discussions and reading of the poem- Sorry, Sorry, Sorry with the help echo reading strategy. They discovered new words and practiced paragraph writing. Throughout the month, our students displayed their passion, creativity, and growth, making May a truly memorable learning experience. SCIENCEApril commenced with an interactive session where the students introduced themselves. They were further motivated to observe their surroundings and find out different living and non-living things. A video related to the living and non-living things was shown and also show and tell activity was conducted to enhance their learning. After detailed discussion and explanation the students were able to understand and differentiate between the feature of living and non-living things like respiration, growth, movement and reproduction. To conclude the chapter quiz was conducted in the class. Another chapter was introduced in the class by the educator to make the students learn about, cell (basic unit of life) tissue, organ, organ system and organism. Further an activity was conducted to show how lungs work and respiration takes place. Students were also taken to the biology lab to make them understand how the different organ systems work in the human body. There they learnt about the different organ, their position and functions, this strengthened their understanding and gave them clarity of concepts. With never-ending enthusiasm, they introduced themselves. We then together started our research on how humans evolved. They were shown the miniatures of the weapons that the Early Humans used and tried to connect their lives and difficulties. They learnt about the life of Early Humans by using a variety of strategies and teaching methodologies. It was incredible to see their surprise and excitement as they compared modern and early human life. The Discovery of fire was an eventful for which they were excited to see the videos and understand the it. As said by Maria Montessori, ‘The hands are the instruments of man’s intelligence.’ To improve our children’s creative and cognitive skills, students along with the teacher learnt to build a raft and understood the ancient forms of transport on the way! Also they were shown the miniatures of the weapons that the early humans used. Also they learned the role of farming in the early humans lives which further took them towards the civilized way of settlements and discovering the wheel and Potter's wheel which gradually changed and made their life easy. To recapitulate their learning students attempted a worksheet also. "Our enthusiastic Suncitizens further explored the theme ‘My World’. As an introduction to the topic, the class observed and discovered the map of India which revealed their next topic - ‘Our Country’. Using the map maker tool students located their country’s location on the world map. Further learning about India, students developed a sense of patriotism and a desire to serve their country as they learnt about the national symbols of India. To conclude the topic, the children revised their learnings through a game of Match and Pair. Deep diving into the learning about Indian States and Union Territories, students were explained the need to divide the country into states and Union Territories and the role of Central and State governments in the functioning of a country. To offer structured learning students were introduced to the states in the North region. A detailed study of Haryana was taken up about the culture , major cities , handicrafts, famous cities ,places and sportsperson. The class began with a gratitude activity video, providing a concise introduction to the concept of gratitude and its importance in our lives. Following the video, an interactive activity called the Gratitude Card was conducted. Each student was given the opportunity to express their gratitude towards someone they appreciated or felt thankful for. It's focus on gratitude was enhanced through the Gratitude Card activity. By engaging in this activity, students were encouraged to reflect on and express their gratitude towards someone important in their lives. To check their prior knowledge, they were asked to identify three-digit numbers around them, They came up with interesting observations. Similarly, they were asked to identify and note down 4-digit numbers in their notebooks. The students understood the Place Value concept through place value blocks. They happily made four-digit numbers using number cards and represented their numbers using various forms – Expanded, Word, Standard and Model forms. They understood the difference between Face Value and Place Value. Moreover, the students of Grade III formed 4 - digit numbers using a number card. Interestingly, they compared and ordered 4-digit numbers with the help of a number line and number card game. They also did an hands on activity wherein they made different ways to reflect place value like place value parlour. They memorised the names of the notes and the symbols associated, the value of the musical note being played/ counted with simple arithmatic and multiplication, counting names, rhythm and beats to be played/ counted in different musical note-value with different time signature. The song practised was : "You raise me up". INDIAN DanceThe power of Deva Shree Ganesha destroys all your sorrows, enhances your happiness, and creates goodness all around you. Lord Ganesha blesses you with worldly bounties, keeps you protected from obstacles at all times, with this thought we at Suncity started the new session with a beautiful Ganesh Vandana - "Ganesh Raja" by Kailash Kher.Along with Kathak basics students learnt beautiful postures, mudras and body balancing in Kathak dance style. WESTERN DANCEThe new session started with the enthusiastic Bhangra dance on the occasion of Baisakhi festival. Bhangra being one of the most energetic dance forms, it gives students the scope to push themselves to built their stamina and it is one of the best calisthenic exercise. Bhangra choreography was an amalgamation of rhythmic footwork and broad hand movements. The choreography was done in modern Bhangra style keeping the essence of the folk element intact. DRAMAApril-- The new session started with great enthusiasm, and with the creative introduction and ice-breaking activities for the students. Students were acquainted to some focus and concentration activities to improve their attentiveness. May-- In the month of May, the students were introduced to two very important tools of drama: Observation and Imagination. Observation is a crucial trigger for imagination. It helps actors and students become more aware of their surroundings and notice even the smallest details. Furthermore, it develops their sense memory data bank, enhances the power of imagination, and ultimately enables them to convincingly create and transform into a character from a script. Activities such as sound observation, animal observation, and observation of human behaviour in different situations have improved the observation and imagination skills of the students. Imagination, being a powerful brain-booster, allows individuals to think in unconventional ways. It can help in finding solutions and enables the creation of scenarios that effectively solve problems. VISUAL ARTSClass III Students were introduced to the artist S.H. Raza as a part of World Art Day celebrations which is commemorated on 15th April every year. They were introduced to geometrical compositions. Students created a beautiful composition in Warli art form and a poster on Earth Day.
