MATH Students explored mathematical operations-"Subtraction" in the month of August. A fantastic concept elucidation activity enthralled the children where they collaborated with their peers and identified subtraction key words. Moreover, they related those terms with their real life situations and framed their own subtraction stories. This month witnessed wonderful innovators .Furthermore, the students recapitulated properties of addition and subtraction through an activity , wherein they created their own food menu and presented themselves as owners and drafted bill for customers. They were introduced to subtraction word problems for the number operations and were guided on how to solve a word problem using RUCSAC method. It was remarkable to see them working on 'Word Problems'. They themselves made their own word problems. SCIENCE Moving forward from a successful show at parent walk in, where the students learnt and enhanced their skills like interpersonal, problem solving and time management, the topic- Eating habit of animals was introduced. With the help of video clips students were explained how do animals eat and why they have different types of eating habits. Also they were given the knowledge about why do animals have different types of teeth and different ways of eating the food, like gnawing, swallowing and chewing the cud. After a little brainstorming and group discussion food chain was explained to the students, and they were asked to make a food chain. This helped them to understand the concept of next topic that was food chain which included the producers and the consumers, where they could relate how a food chain and a food web are an integral part of our ecosystem. A mask making activity was also done in the class, where our young ones prepared masks of different animals and plants of a food chain. In the activity they made a food chain and then a food web to explain how they are interconnected. Age-appropriate suitable videos, PPT and interactive sharing session were the methodologies used in guiding the learning throughout. SOCIAL-SCIENCE The month commenced with the amazing display of Parent walk in , where the students showcased their skills , talent and confidence to their parents through their inter personal and problem solving skills .They presented the topics of Important cities of India – Mumbai and Delhi. Their presentation had the touchpoints on location of the city on the map of India, direction of the city , culture , tourist places , food with a game of quiz on India.The Mumbai group presented it in Hindi . Taking the Occupation lesson forward, they put forward their map skills and marked on the map of India various states famous for the different types of occupations related to animals ,Learners were asked - 'Do you think what you like to do in your free time is also an occupation?' So such thought provoking questions made learners think about the difference between and occupation and hobby which also raised a question about the concept of migration. There are people who visit us every day and help us in keeping our home clean, cars clean, parks clean, keep our society clean, water tap issue, etc. Who are they? Do you think these people are important to us? The topic of community helpers was introduced with the help of a role play in the class in groups and the importance of these community helpers in our lives and value of their work was discussed. A new beginning for the sun citizens was through a nature walk of school and getting to know about the plants in their surroundings which they enjoyed thoroughly. After the walk they were asked about the importance and uses of trees through an eye catching show and tell activity , where the learners made it lively by presenting various things we get from plants in our lives , also a virtual tour to Aravalli Biodiversity Park in Gurugram and how it’s called lungs of Gurugram. Since plants are so useful for us we’ve a plant that eats insects and pictures, video was shown related to insectivores plants. The month ended with a introduction to landforms in the country, They explored it through PPT and realized how wonderfully blessed is our country which has all the major landforms present in it. The topic of vegetation was introduced later on. ICT The students were able to understand the concepts of editing text in MS Word - Selecting the text using Mouse and keyboard, two ways of inserting text, moving, copying, deleting the text, undo, redo commands, spelling and grammar check, Thesaurus. The students performed practical using all the concepts. They completed the brain developer exercise. They started with the drawing of a poster on Teacher's Day. ENGLISH In August, Grade 3 students embarked on a dynamic learning journey filled with language exploration and creativity. They started by studying helping and action verbs, and then they learned about tenses and personal pronouns. The highlight of the month was a special event called Parent Walk-in, where the students did a fantastic role-play in English that showed how helping and action verbs work. This activity was integrated with performing arts. They also presented their work on picture compositions, where they described different cities from their social science studies. In the following weeks, they continued to learn about grammar and read stories like "Treasure Island" and "Princess and the Pea." They finished the month with reading assessments, presentations and more picture compositions. HINDI मास का आरंभ 'भाषा सप्ताह एकीकरण' के अंतर्गत हिन्दी में पढ़ाए गए विषय 'बया पक्षी' व सामाजिक विज्ञान से एकीकृत करते हुए 'महाराष्ट्र राज्य के राज्य पशु व पक्षी के शानदार प्रस्तुतीकरण के साथ किया गया जिसके द्वारा छात्रों के अंतरवैयक्तिक कौशल, भाषाई कौशल, और वाचन कौशल का विकास हुआ | मीठी बोली वाले पक्षी कोयल से किया गया । पी०पी०टी० द्वारा विभिन्न पशु - पक्षियों के चित्र दिखाकर पूछा गया कि अमुक प्राणी से हम क्या सीख सकते है । तत्पश्चात कोयल पक्षी के बारे में बताया गया कि यह पक्षी देखने में काला होते हुए भी अपनी मीठी बोली के कारण सभी को लुभाता है। इसी प्रकार छात्रों को मीठी बोली के फायदे बताते हुए उन्हे मीठी बोली बोलने के लिए प्रेरित किया गया । छात्रों को लिंक दिखाकर समान लय वाले शब्दों का परिचय दिया गया व कुछ समान लय वाले शब्द स्वयं लिखने के लिए प्रेरित करते हुए अभ्यास कार्य करवाया गया । पाठ- 'मैं हवा हूँ' का परिचय हवा के विषय में चर्चा करते हुए व हवा के उपयोग बताते हुए दिया गया । तत्पश्चात पाठ का पठन करवाकर अभ्यास कार्य करवाया गया । छात्रों को स्वच्छ हवा व दूषित हवा के स्वास्थ्य पर प्रभाव का ए -४ शीट पर वर्णन करने का कार्य दिया गया । लिंग का विडिओ दिखाकर लिंग के दोनों भेदों का परिचय दिया गया व अभ्यास कार्य करवाया गया । इससे छात्रों के शब्द भंडार में नवीन शब्दों का समावेश हुआ। छात्रों को 'साइमन ने कहा' खेल खिलाकर 'क्रिया' का परिचय दिया गया। क्रिया के विषय में समझाकर अभ्यास-कार्य करवाया गया। छात्रों को कुछ क्रियाओं के चित्र चिपकाकर उनके नाम लिखवाए गए । छात्रों के भाषिक ज्ञान व शब्द भंडार में वृद्धि हुई। https://youtu.be/FZRPhoiWH2c?feature=shared https://youtu.be/ZxVQn6qg01I?feature=shared https://youtu.be/QOxsqNGW3p4?feature=shared PHYSICAL EDUCATION Under the guidance of their respective teachers/ coaches, students learnt: Badminton: Evaluation of skills, skill demonstration by students, practice with teacher, 11 points match, Knockout matches and match playing. Gymnastics: Basic floor exercises and balancing beam activities, performed on a padded floor mat, involving a combination of forward roll, backward roll, handstand and artistic exercise, walking and balancing on the beam. Judo: Ushiro Ukemi (Backward fall), Mae Ukemi (Forward fall) Cricket: Batting Basics, Front foot defence, Backfoot defence, Bowling basics, Pace bowling, spin bowling, Fielding drills, Running between the wickets, Practice Matches to apply all the knowledge. Basketball: Shooting Layups: A fundamental shot where a player drives to the basket and shoots the ball off the backboard or into the hoop and Free Throws Football: Push pass, In step receiving the ball, Outstep Receiving and Chest pass, Kicking; Drills to teach In step, Out step, Chip shot, Short and long-distance kicking. Heading and Throwing and Defense. Swimming: Basic Strokes: Front Crawl (Freestyle), Backstroke WESTERN DANCE May the festive vibes of Onam inspire you to embrace the goodness of life, share your blessings, and create beautiful memories with those you cherish. The new choreography started with the enthusiastic Onam dance on the occasion of Onam. Using the contemporary tools and feeling of hasya ras, students learnt an energetic South Indian folk dance. Contemporary tools give students the scope to push themselves to build their flexibility and it is one of the best calisthenic exercise. Patriotic choreography was an amalgamation of contemporary movement and folk authentic using vocals as the secondary tool. The choreography was done in modern style keeping the essence of Tollywood intact. DRAMA Students learnt more about using their voices effectively and engaging in speech-related activities. August is the month when India celebrates its Independence. To mark this special occasion and truly grasp its significance, drama students performed a play called "Tiranga" on 15th of August. Additionally, students enacted important moments from India's struggle for independence in their classrooms. In an effort to understand the value of freedom, students also came up with improvised scenes that depicted the challenges Indians faced before gaining independence. This experience really helped them better understand and appreciate the sacrifices made by those who fought for our freedom. It is because of these valiant individuals that we enjoy our freedom today. INDIAN DANCE The right way to celebrate the occasion of Krishna Janmashtami is to embrace and follow the teachings of lord Krishna from bBhagwat Geeta.The power of Shree Krishna destroys all your sorrows, enhances your happiness, and creates goodness all around. With this thought, in August students learnt a beautiful Krishna Vandana on the song - "Shri Krishna govinda" in Kathak style along with beautiful postures, mudras and body balancing. The fable teaches the lesson that consistent effort and determination can overcome even natural advantages. Instrument used/ taught: Piano and guitar ART Students made compositions on varoius types of birds and animals using complementary and supplementary colours. They also drew Krishna paintings using warm and cool colours. INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATION 76 years of India’s Independence The spirit of patriotism and unity reverberated through the premises of Suncity School 37D, Gurgaon, as the school celebrated the 76th Independence Day of India with great enthusiasm and pride. The event showcased a remarkable blend of dances, dramas, songs and speeches, emphasizing the importance of our nation's freedom struggle, our rich culture and heritage, and how much our nation has grown. The event was graced by none other than Major General Bipin Bakshi as our revered Chief Guest, Mr. Krishna Kumar Gaur Vice president of Blue Nudge- our Guest of Honour , members of the management Ms Nandini Singh, Ms Varsha Johrar, Mr Rohit Dalal, , and Principal Ma’am Ms Guneet Ohri. The celebration commenced with our esteemed Chief Guest, Major General Bipin Bakshi hoisting our national flag, a moment that filled everyone's heart with pride and respect for the tricolour. Gen Bakshi then inaugurated ‘Abhivyakti 2.0, the Art exhibition that showcased the various folk art forms of India right from Pichwai, thangka, Bhil, Godhna ,Gond and many more. This was followed by the lighting of the lamp, and some insightful words of inspiration were shared by our principal, Ms. Guneet Ohri. The program progressed with the launch of the school's anthem, a composition that encapsulates the school's values, vision, and commitment to fostering responsible citizens penned by the school's revered Principal, Ms. Guneet Ohri and composed with help of the music department and middle and high school students. It explained the values of strength, respect, kindness, honesty and how these values can help us to make a better tomorrow. Major General Bipin Bakshi in his speech asked the students, a wonderful question: "Why does the flag flutter?" According to him, it flutters due to both the wind and the dying soldiers' final breaths. He also stressed upon the importance of attitude, courage, and determination in achieving one's goals. The celebration came to a close with the display of live art where the students sketched the portraits of the 14 Prime Ministers and instilled a renewed sense of patriotism and pride among all. The event beautifully captured the essence of India's Independence Day, honouring the past, celebrating the present, and looking forward to a brighter future. PARENT WALK -IN There is a strong push to involve students in their learning, to let them create their own understanding, to encourage critical thinking, and to increase students’ responsibility in schooling. The integrated curriculum translates this theory into practice. - Joseph Nowicki A unique concept at Suncity School 37D, this Parent Walk-in brought the parents to witness the seamless integration between the different subjects (integration between Social Science, Languages (English & Hindi), Performing Arts (Music, Dance & Theatre). The day was filled with integrated learning and interaction where the students donned the cap of an educator and the parent, their students. The event commenced with an eloquent address by Principal Guneet Ohri, setting the tone for the day's events. Students initiated their learning journey with an evocative rendition of a Kashmiri folk song “Hukus Bukus”, a part of the Sangeet4All program, which carried the essence of Kashmir’s cultural heritage. In the Social Studies section, students showcased India's diverse landscapes, emphasizing unity in diversity. They explored cardinal directions and the states within them. The focus then shifted to megacities—Delhi and Mumbai. These presentations showcased cultural richness, landmarks, and cuisines. Sustainable Development Goal 11 (SDG-11) was highlighted, reflecting their global awareness. An interactive country-based game concluded the session, sparking engaging discussions about India. In Hindi, students presented a poem on animals and birds, seamlessly integrated with Social Science. They shared an informative and intriguing poem about Mumbai's wildlife, including शेखरू (squirrel) and हरियल (Yellow-footed green pigeon). The poem also touched upon बया (weaver bird), a chapter from their book 'बया का घर,' aligning with SDG-15—Life on Land. The English segment was a theatrical treat, revealing the interplay between helping verbs and action verbs through a captivating play. The performance highlighted the collaboration between helping verbs and action verbs. This lively portrayal emphasized the power of teamwork, drawing parallels between linguistic unity and the unity essential in life's journey. This Parent Walk-in celebrated the joy of learning, brought to the forefront, the richness of cultural amalgamation, and underscored the school's dedication to nurturing confident and insightful individuals. This event saw a strong blend of 21st century skills, with a dash of UN Sustainable Development Goals and a sprinkle of Multiple Intelligences, all woven together within the Subject Integration concept.
